Choosing an oak floor: check the sample in your own light

Daylight across the oak floor and curved seatingOak floor next to the tall windows

At Greyhouse photography studio in Songjiang, Shanghai, imondi natural oak flooring sits alongside pale walls and curved seating. Tall windows bring daylight across the wood, which has a wood wax oil finish.

The photographs show the floor close to the windows and further into the room. They are a useful starting point when choosing a finish, but a photograph cannot tell you exactly how the same wood will look in your own space.

Lay your sample flat near a window, then move it to a more shaded part of the room. Put your wall and furniture samples beside it. Look again in the evening with your usual lights on. Comparing the materials together will help you choose a floor that works with the rest of the room.
